AGRIBUSINESS WATER PROPAGANDA
(Do You Know Where Your Money Is Going?)
SBCWD
The San Benito County Water District has a $20 million budget.
WRASBC
The Water Resources Association of San Benito County budget: $362,550.
PACHECO PASS DAM EXPANSION
SBCWD will give $50 million to Santa Clara County for their billion dollar dam.
SGMA
The State Sustainable Groundwater Management Act budget: $86.3 million.
HOW AGRIBUSINESS SPENDS YOUR MONEY
SBCWD sells cheap water to agribusiness and charges high prices to Hollister and Sunnyslope. The entire WRASBC budget is spent on propaganda telling you why you should pay a higher bill and get less water. You will pay for the Pacheco Pass Dam Expansion, but agribusiness will get the water. And the only reason we need SGMA is that agribusiness uses 80% of California water and is causing groundwater levels to drop all over the state. All of these agencies and projects exist to take money from you and give water to agribusiness.
Your high water bill is going to get a lot higher if you do nothing. How can you make a difference? You can run for the SBCWD Board of Directors. Three of the five SBCWD Board members will be up for election in 2020. There are 60,000 people in San Benito County. It only takes one person out of 12,000 to serve on the SBCWD Board. Are you that one in 12,000? Or are you just another sheep who will allow agribusiness to run SBCWD and steal you blind? Are you willing to spend a couple of hours a month serving on the SBCWD Board?
